Welcome to the new online home of the Lowell Cultural Council (LCC). The LCC is a part of the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s local cultural council program which seeks to provide funding for local cultural projects through localized decision makers. The Lowell Cultural Council’s mission is to promote excellence, access, education and diversity in the arts, humanities, and interpretive sciences in order to improve the quality of life for all Lowell residents and to contribute to the economic vitality of this community through the re-granting of public monies awarded to the LCC by the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC). Members of the Lowell Cultural Council are volunteers appointed by the City Manager and operate independently of the City’s Cultural Affairs office. The Cultural Organization of Lowell (COOL) serves as the grants administrator for the LCC but holds no decision making control over the grants themselves.
The LCC currently exists on the web in a number of venues including on the City of Lowell’s Boards and Commissions page, COOL’s website, and on the MCC’s local cultural council portals. While these sites each represent an important aspect of the LCC, there really hasn’t been a central location to celebrate the dozens of LCC-funded projects, artists, and organizations that are funded annually. This website was established to be administered by the volunteer members of the LCC for that very purpose as well as to make it easier for those who are curious about the LCC’s activities and protocols to find that information in a single place. (However, for the most up-to-date and official information on the grants process, please visit mass-culture.org/Lowell).
In addition to news items such as the annual grant distribution and the achievement of the MCC’s Gold Star Award, this site will also host a regular “LCC Spotlight” series on local grant-funded projects. These spotlights will take the form of blog posts written by council members, grant recipients, or other community contributors. If you are an LCC grant recipient and are interested in supplying information for the LCC Spotlight series please contact us at email@example.com!
