On April 10th, several dozen LCC grantees, council members, and other interested Lowellians descended upon the Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association of Greater Lowell’s headquarters to celebrate the 2017 Lowell Cultural Council Reception.

The relaxed reception began with remarks from LCC co-chair James Ostis and a welcome from CMAA executive director Sovanna Pouv.  Lisa Simmons from the Massachusetts Cultural Council attended and stressed the importance of maintaining arts and culture funding in the state budget.

Finally after each of the LCC recipients introduced their projects, City Councilor Bill Samaras summed up the importance of Lowell’s cultural community:

“Without this work, without projects like this, Lowell would just be a city.  Its not–its a community.  You’ve made it that way.”
