The 2017 Lowell Cultural Council Grantee Reception is headed to Cambodia Town! On April 10, 2017, from 6:30 to 8:00, the Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association of Greater Lowell (CMAA) will host the annual celebration of cultural grant award winners at their School Street Headquarters for the very first time.
“We are very excited to be hosting this year’s Lowell Cultural Council Reception at the Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association” said LCC co-chair James Ostis. “Holding the event in Lower Highlands is part of our commitment to ensure that all neighborhoods are represented in the Lowell cultural community. CMAA has been serving the Greater Lowell area for over three decades and we are proud to be partnering with them as we celebrate this year’s grants.”
This year the LCC funded 42 projects for a total of $61,645. Among those projects include CMAA’s After School Cambodian Culture Program, which is housed in the same newly renovated second floor of the CMAA building that will serve as the host for this year’s reception.
“Lowell Cultural Council is a remarkable program that supports many nonprofits and their programs for a long time” said Sovanna Pouv, executive director of the CMAA. “Whether an individual is looking for support to host panel discussions or a nonprofit is in need of funds to kick-off their after school program, LCC is a great local funding source and we are very proud to be one of those recipients this year. Thank you LCC!”
The 2016 LCC Reception was held at the Onyx Room of Western Ave Studios in the Acre. Previous receptions were held at Mill No. 5 (2015), Merrimack Repertory Theater (2014), Loading Dock Gallery (2013), and Lowell Telecommunications (2012). As this year’s event takes place in the Highlands, it marks three different neighborhoods covered over the past three years as part of the LCC’s efforts to outreach to the entire Lowell community.
